2. Goldfrapp - Supernature

It was a question I’d asked myself often while impatiently awaiting this release: How could the sultry queen of synthetic seduction possibly follow up two previous albums that were at once equally gorgeous (and awe inspriringly good), yet almost polar opposites, mood/sonic style wise? For the sassy, almost surreally sexy Goldfrapp the answer was simple: combine the best of both worlds.Â
Continuing in the libido laced tradition of Black Cherry, Supernature features plenty of songs begging to be the soundtrack to your next illicit rendevous at the ‘charges by the hour’ motel down the street. The album’s first single, ‘Ooh La La’ drips with erotic innuendo while other tracks like ‘Ride The White Horse’ and ‘Lovely 2cu’ are heavy on the breathing, and short on the subtley.
But while these songs may get your mind wandering in all sorts of naughty directions, the obviously more ‘Felt Mountain‘esq excursions on the disc lead the listener into another world entirely. ‘Fly me away’ is an uplifting jaunt into a cloudless sky while dare I say it, ‘Time out from the world’ may be the lovliest piece from the duo since ‘Utopia’.Â
A stunning effort from a band that continues to exceed my expectations.  To quote the siren herself; “I need la la la la la la, I need ooh la la la la” well Allison my dear, you need look no further than your latest disc to get your fix.Â
Standouts:Â
- Ooh la la
- Time out from the world
- Ride a white horse

[…] In the past months, I’ve been playing Goldfrapp’s Supernature far more than anything else recently added to my music collection. Cash reviewed the album, and I can’t recommend it highly enough. But if you were to get just one track from it, check out “Number 1″ (iTunes link). […]
